A good contest between Matt Smith and David Smith who played Alan Messer and Derek Meechan. Alan and Derek were behind but in touch for most of the match but just got their noses in front on the 20th end and won the 21st to make sure.

Jonathan Clear and Clunky Clarke only needed 17 ends to beat Martin Joyce and Gus Roberts
David Fairs and John Schools started the defence of their title with a convincing 28-5 win
John Hobbs and Stuart Shwartz also moved forward to the quarter finals

Nick and Ray beat Derek Meechan and Derek Ridley. Derek was deputising for Alan Messer. The match score was a very close 19-17

Its hard to bet against John Fairs and David Levey in this competition - they are in the SF again
